Phoenix Unlimited Martial Arts developed to further martial knowledge in an uninhibited environment. We train in many styles of martial arts including Catch Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Shoot Wrestling, Muay Thai, Savate, Filipino Kali, Okinawan Karate, Silat, Kenjutsu, Wing Chun, Tae Kwon Do, Five Animal Styles of Kung Fu, Fencing, Kyudo, and Marksmanship.
The Martial Arts of today are not what they were in the past. Many traditional martial arts developed for a particular type of fighting or specific range of fighting (a specific fighting distance). A good example would be Muay Thai Kickboxing, the system is very good at a kicking and punching range, but Muay Thai lacks finishing moves and ground fighting techniques. Ninety percent of fights end on the ground, for most people that is the last place they want to be, especially if there is more than one opponent. From this thought process many martial artist have decided to train both Muay Thai Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which developed the idea of Mixed Martial Arts. Unfortunately Mixed Martial Arts does not take into account the used of weapons and close in/ Trap fighting. Today Martial Arts is a constantly evolving network of martial systems with certain fundamental principals, that coincide together, conflict, and eventually through individual dynamic process find harmony with the individual practitioner.
At Phoenix Unlimited Martial Arts we focus on developing in the student a diverse set of skills, that allows the student to be confident at any range of fighting. These skills along with competition, confidence development, and respect for others and the environment around them, helps to develop a complete individual with good character and confidence to take on any task the world has to offer.
We adhere to Bruce Lee’s philosophy of “accept what is useful and reject what is useless.” However we still respect traditional martial arts and hold on to traditional Martial training values.
